Pre-Conference Workshop: Innovation by DesignJuly 7-8, 2014 (9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

Innovation is elusive because it challenges us to go beyond what exists. Innovation comes from fresh insight and the ability to piece together new value propositions. It is grounded in customer insight, nurtured by divergent teams and thinking, and unfolds through focused experimentation. Innovation also requires overcoming organizational resistance, the forces that want to resist risk and keep things the same. Mindfulness can help to make this process smooth and effective by engaging others and listening to their perspective.

In this 2-day hands-on workshop, we will learn and apply the methods that are used by top innovation practitioners to see and shape new opportunities. We will also explore some of the individual, team and organizational leadership elements that are essential to support innovation and break through organizational barriers. One major benefit of this approach is it develops empathy and emotional resilience through human centered design.

Participants are encouraged to join in teams (2 from each organization) to build the capacity they can take back and put to work in their organizations.

Post Conference Workshop
Friday July 11, 2014 – 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Workshop Theme is:  Powerful Relationships, the Foundation for our Accomplishments.

To effect change or have an impact in our organizations, we typically go to work on altering the circumstances, or the people around us. Change is essentially a comparison to something that previously existed. Transformation is an act of bringing forth, creating and inventing. In this workshop we will engage with the distinction of transformation versus change and participants will take on being the architects of the culture. You will participate in an interactive session which will help you to determine:

  • How can you influence organizational culture?
  • How can you access effectiveness in relating to others?
  • How do you find confidence or provide it for others?
  • How do you make choices to pursue what is really important to you and to the organization?
  • How do you live life fully?
