Kirk Humphrey

Advocate of Adaptive Leadership, Social Policy Specialist and
Leadership and Development Professional

 

Kirk Humphrey is currently the Senior Development Officer with the Canadian High Commission in Barbados. As part of his portfolio he manages projects related directly to investing in people, and  is the Project Team Leader for the Caribbean Leadership Project, which is a project designed to train at least 250 public sector managers in leadership.

Kirk held various positions in the government of Barbados.  He was a tax official with the value Added Tax department; Manager, Administration, with the Child Care Board and Director of Social Policy, Research and Planning before being appointed as the Director of the Department of Constituency Empowerment.

He has an extensive career in the social sector and a deep passion for issues pertaining to poverty eradication.

Mr. Humphrey holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus in Management, A Master of Science degree in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Masters of Public Administration degree from the Harvard Kennedy School. 

While at Harvard he trained in adaptive leadership under Professor Ronald Heifetz, the founder of adaptive leadership, and returned to assist in the teaching of leadership with the professor a few years later.

Kirk often combines his two passions “Leadership” and “Social Policy” in teaching and project implementation and strongly articulates for an adaptive leadership approach in addressing many of the complex challenges facing the region.
